Prof. (Dr.) Ravi Shanker
Prof. (Dr.) Ravi Shanker is a senior academician in the field of
management education with more than 3 decades of experience of working in
India's premier institutions, like; Management Development Institute (MDI)
Gurgaon (1979-1989), School of Management Studies, IGNOU (1987-88), Indian
Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi (1989-1999) and Indian Institute of
Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi(1999 on words).
He joined IIFT in 1999 as Professor in the area of marketing and for the last 10
years he is working as Chairperson, heading different divisions of the
Institute, like; Graduate Studies, International Collaborations and Capacity
Development, Off-campus and VSAT- based Programmes, Management Development
Programmes. He is currently the Chairperson Graduate Studies Division, apart
from professor of marketing.
In January 2009 he was invited by the Jaypee Group, to set up its business
school in Noida. During a short span of 2 years he was able bring up the Jaypee
Business School to such a level that as per "Career Growth and Salary Survey" it
is ranked amongst the top 50 business schools in India.
Dr. Ravi Shanker is a Senior Consultant on the panel of Commonwealth of
Learning, Vancouver (Canada) and has conducted "Tutor Training Workshop" for the
management teachers coming from select Commonwealth countries. He is one of the
key resource persons at the German Development Institute, (DIE) Bonn, Germany
and a member of the Scientific Committee of the M.Sc. Programme on Fashion and
Luxury Management Skema Business School, France.
He is a visiting faculty with a number of premier institutions like, Al-Ghurair
University Dubai, Institute of Finance Management, Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania). He
was also invited by Phorzahim University Germany for restructuring the marketing
courses. In India also he has been a visiting faculty at IIM Lucknow, IIM Raipur,
Faculty of Management Studies University of Delhi, International Management
Institute, TERI University, etc.
Dr. Ravi Shanker is a member of Academic Councils / Board of Studies of many
Institutions and universities, like; School of Management Studies (Indira Gandhi
National Open University), All India Management Association (AIMA), Indian
Institute of Materials Management and TERI University.
He has authored five books and some of which are used as text books in many
business schools. His Book on 'Services Marketing: The Indian Perspective' is
one of the best works in India. His other book 'Managing Distribution' is also
quite popular in Indian management schools.
Dr. Ravi Shanker's work is well recognized and recently his two research
papers were included in the edited books published by Anthem Press London and
Routledge, UK.
For the Distance Education Management Programme of Indira Gandhi National Open
University he developed the full course material for courses on Sales
Management, Management of Marketing Communication and Advertising and Services
Marketing.
He specializes in the field of Marketing of Services and has undertaken
consultancy and training assignments for companies like HMT Limited, MMTC, ONGC,
ABB, BPCL, VLCC, ITC Welcomgroup, Jaypee Hotels, etc.
He holds MSc, MBA and PhD degrees.
